Microsoft removing “boot to desktop” feature from Windows Server 2012
According to popular tech writer and Microsoft insider Paul Thurrott, Microsoft has decided to remove the previously existing “Boot to Desktop” feature, which would allow users to skip the Metro interface and boot directly into the “classic” desktop, from Windows Server 2012.
While this is clearly in a move to emphasize the importance of the new Metro interface, various people, including Thurrott, suggest that this might be detrimental to Windows Server’s adaption rate in the business and server realm, and that the “Metro” interface could just be considered extra fluff.
Also of interest is that Microsoft is reportedly doing more than just hiding the legacy Start button from Windows 8 after users discovered ways to re-activate it, and have now actually ripped the code straight from the OS. Many users have continued to voice their concern over the removal of the Start button.
