Microsoft Slate rumored to go on sale for $599 for WinRT, $999 for Win8
Nothing about this, of course, is official until the big company in Redmond says so, however TheNextWeb is reporting that “close sources” to Microsoft has let some key pricing details slip.
According to their sources, the base ARM version of the tablet, which runs Windows RT, will go on sale for $599 (which is $200 more than the base model of the iPad, for comparison’s sake – though it does contain double the storage), while the Intel based Windows 8 version of the tablet will start at a whopping $999.
While I’d hope that these prices aren’t correct – I’d see little ability for Microsoft to really compete against the iPad or other tablets at these prices, however TheNextWeb is generally an accurate source of information. On the upside, the Microsoft Surface does bundle a keyboard accessory which is an additional charge for most other tablets, which certainly would make up for some of the additional cost here.
