Rethink Digg: Digg to be relaunched on August 1st
That’s right – Digg is being relaunched on August 1st. After an “exhaustive” six week development cycle, new owner BetaWorks has deemed it best to relaunch the once popular social news networking site Digg with an entirely new codebase, leaving no trace of the legacy that will now be referred to as “old Digg” but it’s name.
BetaWorks warns that the new Digg will very much be a v1 site, bringing the site “back into a startup”. As such, certain features will be left out of the initial launch, but will be brought back in as time goes on.
This is certainly an incredibly ballsy move. Completely trashing a floundering, but very much existing and once respected product and recreating it from the ground up in just six weeks is perhaps unheard of. But they certainly have my attention.
