One of the biggest downsides in the tech industry these days comes in the form of the horrors of software patents. It seems like Mojang, developer of the wildly successful multi-platform game Minecraft, has now joined a not-so-exclusive club and has been sued for patent infringement by Texas-based company Uniloc.
The patent in question is patent #6,857,067, which is a “system and method for preventing unauthorized access to electronic data”. The product that supposedly violates this patent is Minecraft for Android.
Notch, head of Mojang, has directly responded to the suit on his blog, saying that he “will throw piles of money at making sure they don’t get a cent.”
