Valve CEO: Windows 8 “is a catastrophe for everyone”

It appears that Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve (which makes hit games such as the Half Life, Portal, and Team Fortress series – as well as Steam) has no love for Microsoft’s latest and greatest. Mr. Newell apparently told a group at this year’s Casual Connect conference that Windows 8 “is a catastrophe for everyone”, and believes that it will drive manufacturers away from Microsoft developed operating systems.

Mr. Newell actually went so far as to even confirm that Steam for Linux, which is currently in development, is a back up “hedging strategy” in case Windows 8 bombs as hardcore as he expects it to. Conveniently, he apparently made no mention of the fact that Steam for Linux could also have something to do with Valve’s highly rumored game console, which would almost certainly run on a variant of Linux.
