Apple removes iOS YouTube app, Google working on App Store version
Well it was only a matter of time – Apple had clearly drew a line in the sand when it removed Google Maps from iOS 6 beta 1, and now they’re at it again. Sources have just confirmed to us that Apple has indeed removed Apple’s long ignores YouTube app from being bundled with iOS 6 beta 4, marking the removal of yet another Google service from the OS.
This one comes as less of a surprise however – Apple hasn’t really even touched the application since the iPhone launched in 2007, and YouTube already has a vastly superior web app available to iOS users by simply going to YouTube.com.
Update: Google and Apple has just confirmed to The Verge that this was indeed done on purpose as their agreement to keep the YouTube app bundled has expired, and Google is now working on a standalone App Store version that will be available later this year.
