Microsoft Office 2013 for Windows RT to have limited functionality

With the good always comes the bad. We’ve known for a while now that Microsoft Office 2013 would be coming preloaded on all Windows RT devices (such as the Microsoft Surface), which is good – but today we’re learning that the final version of Microsoft Office 2013, which will come as a free update when available to all Windows RT device owners, will come as a gimped product with a limited feature set – which is bad.

More specifically, The Verge is reporting that Microsoft has pulled support for Macros, third-party plugins, and VBA scripts thus far, making them only available to those who purchase the full version for x86 based Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers. As to why they did this, they’re citing “performance issues” as the primary cause, but it always does well to remember the old saying – “nothing in life is free.”
