Lenovo beats Microsoft to the punch, releasing x86 Windows 8 tablet in October
Those interested in getting their grimy hands on an x86 version of one of Microsoft’s new tablets, the Microsoft Surface, may need to wait until “later this year” before they can get the fruits of their glory, but Lenovo’s got something that may be a bit more enticing – a full blown x86 Windows 8-based tablet computer Lenovo’s calling the ThinkPad Tablet 2, running Intel’s next-generation Intel Atom processor, which is to be released in October alongside Windows 8 retail.
This is essentially a 16:9, 10″ tablet computer running Windows 8 Pro, complete with a somewhat lacking 1,366 x 768 IPS display (Microsoft’s x86 Surface will reportedly be coming with a high DPI display, similar to the third-generation iPad’s), optional 3G/LTE capabilities, an NFC radio, and micro-HDMI output. Certainly sounds tempting, no?
Unfortunately, there’s been no price announced just yet, but we’d assume something like this will retail for around the price of an ultrabook – in other words, quite a bit more than the average iPad or Android tablet offering price.
