Facebook for iOS upgraded to fully native version 5.0
Facebook’s iOS app has always been much ridiculed as being one of the absolute worst, slowest applications in the history of iOS applications, but that didn’t stop Facebook from using it for a good couple of years while almost every user complained about it – but no more! Facebook has just unveiled it’s new Facebook 5.0 application for iOS, offering some major UI improvements, speed improvements, and stability improvements.
The magic here comes from the fact that Facebook for iOS is now a fully native application, completely built from the ground up as a standard Cocoa app. Previously to this, Facebook had always built the app as an HTML5 application wrapped in a Cocoa shell so as to make it easier to pump out multi-platform versions, but the company apparently decided it was time for the app to grow up.
While the app can still experience its fair share of problems – I’ve already had a crash in the short twenty minutes I’ve been running the app – things do indeed seem smoother. If you’re a Facebook user with an iOS device, make sure you check out the App Store and update this as soon as you can, and then post a celebratory status message to inform your friends.
