Raspberry Pi, now made in the UK

The Raspberry Pi foundation has today announced that their highly successful ~$35 ARM box, the Raspberry Pi, will be shifting its production from China back to the company’s home, the UK.

The deal comes as one of the Raspberry Pi’s distributors have successfully struck a deal with Sony, while will result in about 30,000 of the computers per month being almost entirely built and manufactured in the UK. The deal is said to create 30 new employment opportunities in a time when any amount of new jobs is great news.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation reportedly met with Sony earlier this year, and the deal was struck not too long after. Around 40% of new Raspberry Pi’s will be produced in Whales, while other distributors’ boards will remain in China for the time being.
