Anonymous not behind yesterday’s GoDaddy outage
Some of you may have noticed that a couple of your perhaps favorite websites (including this one, we hope!) was down yesterday. You might be waving your arms in the air, frustrated, wondering who to blame – perhaps yelling “how could I know the top stories going on in technology today without Haverzine!”; we’re right there with you. As we’ve known for a while now, the issue was all due to an outage on the end of one domain registrar used by a lot of sites – GoDaddy. Lots of people were pointing their fingers, looking for somebody to blame – most went towards the infamous group Anonymous. Well, it looks like you only have one thing to blame for the outage – GoDaddy itself.
GoDaddy is being exceptionally quiet about the whole issue, but they have publicaly admitted that no, Anonymous was not at all involved in this issue. According to the GoDaddy CEO, “…it was not a ‘hack’ and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS). We have determined the service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables”
So we can all sleep better at night knowing it wasn’t any external force that brought much of the internet to its knees yesterday, just GoDaddy’s mismanagement itself.
