Verizon gives new iPhone owners 30 days to opt out of sharing location, searches, more with advertisers
You’re an excited owner of a brand spanking new iPhone on Verizon, the carrier with the most 4G LTE coverage in America. What’s not to love? Well, here’s one thing – unless you do something within the next 30 days, Verizon is going to sell all of your location data, search data, demographics (age, gender, ethnicity, etc.) and more with advertisers.
As pointed out by Bryan Clark on App.net, customers have to go to www.vzw.com/myprivacy and chose to opt-out within 30 days of the day they purchased their iPhone in order to stop the carrier from giving away your personal information.
Verizon does however allow customers to opt out at any time, however if you go over that 30-day mark at least that 30 days worth of information will be sold. So what do you think about this – is this acceptable, expected behavior, or Verizon going too far? Let us know what you think in the comments.
