Tokyo District Courts: Apple “not infringing” Samsung patents
Samsung may have successfully fought Apple’s claims of patent infringement in Britain, but it looks like Japan isn’t quite so sensitive to Samsung’s case – a Tokyo District Court has apparently decided last night that Apple is “not infringing” various Samsung patents, of which included a patent that affects downloading apps from the App Store, and another regarding what Samsung calls “Flight Mode” (Airplane Mode in iOS devices), which turns off all antennas on the device.
Samsung was hoping for a sales injunction against Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, but they’re out of luck this time around. Separate reports indicate that Samsung may begin using their contracts with Apple as an integral part of their supply chain against the rival company. Samsung is also said to be threatening to terminate their LCD panel deal with Apple soon.
