ASUS announces next-generation Windows slates

ASUS has today announced what appear to be the first pair of next-generation Windows slates, including a Windows RT based tablet as well as an x86 based Windows 8 tablet.

The Windows RT tablet, called the Tablet 600, will feature a unique transformer design with a detachable keyboard. Inside the machine we’ve got the powerful Tegra 3 quad-core chipset, seemingly 32GB of on-board storage, 2GB of RAM and a 10.1″ IPS display.

Next up is the Tablet 710, donning Windows 8 proper as well as the familiar Intel Atom chipset. The tablet is a whopping 11.6″ large and operates completely fanless – an impressive feat for an x86 slate. Whats more impressive is that this guy is just 8.7″ thin – thinned than even the new iPad from Apple. It’ll also come with an 8MP rear facing camera.

This is an outstanding first announcement for next-generation Windows slates and we’ll be sure to cover any updates we see as we approach launch.
