Microsoft announces Office 2013, releases Customer Preview

Microsoft yesterday officially unveiled the new version of their widely used office suite, Microsoft Office 2013. The new version of Office is slated for release early next year and will include highly desired new features such as better touch support touchscreen based Windows 8 and Windows RT devices, PDF editing support, YouTube integration, a new “Presentation mode”, and more.

Curiously, Microsoft has decided to tighten the restrictions on who can use Microsoft Office 2013, restricting the system requirements to only users of Windows RT, Windows 8, and Windows 7. Previous versions of Microsoft Office supported both Windows Vista and Windows XP as well, though Microsoft has long been aiming to end support of Windows XP, which is now around 11 years old.

We’ll have a more complete writeup of Office 2013 later in the week, including a hands-on preview of the Customer Preview, which was released just yesterday.
