Microsoft has today begun accepting pre-orders for their eagerly anticipated new tablet, the Microsoft Surface. The Microsoft Surface is a 10.1″ tablet running Windows RT (the ARM version of Windows 8, essentially) and is set to ship alongside Windows 8 on October 26th.
According to the just launched pre-orders, the Surface starts at $499 for the 32GB option, which comes without the Touch Cover keyboard.
Other options include a $599 model with an included black Touch Cover, as well as a $699 model which also comes with a black Touch Cover.
Thiis is a significantly higher asking price than most rumors had pegged for the Surface – Microsoft must be quite certain of their ability to move these devices as this is priced significantly more expensive than the current king of the tablet market, the Apple iPad, which starts at only $399.
