File this one under the “how did this get through critical inspection?” folder – the web is on fire today with reports that entering just one small line of code into your Samsung Galaxy device’s web browser can reset the entire phone, deleting any and all data that you haven’t backed up.
We won’t go into detail about what exactly the specific line is (though it’s all over the internet if you really want to know), but this means that owners of a Samsung Galaxy phone need to take extra care while navigating the internet – the line can be snuck into something as innocent seeming as a link in a tweet, a post, or an email.
People have confirmed that the flaw takes down both Galaxy S II as well as Galaxy S III devices, with many other devices also being potential victims. It’s worth noting that this is a flaw in Samsung’s particular implementation of Android and not found in Google’s stock Android.
