iPhone 6 to feature a 1704×960 display?

iphone6-dummy2You probably saw this one coming, but alongside the new size options in the iPhone 6, Apple is also bumping up the Retina display from 1136×640 in the iPhone 5/5C and 5S to a 1704×960 display.

The new display resolution is likely because of the new size options the iPhone 6 is rumoured to have. It’s also likely a response to all the Android phones out there with “full HD” 1080p displays, though the new rumored resolution still isn’t 1080p. Of course, as with all the new screen resolutions that have been introduced over the years, this will require developers to rewrite their apps to support it.

Going further into rumour territory, iOS 8 supposedly will feature up to five horizontal icons with this new resolution but the only source we have on that one right now is China’s slightly dubious Weibo.

New lottery system put in place

Apple announces WWDC 2014, will run June 2nd – 6th

wwdc-2014-logo

Apple has today announced that their annual developers conference, WWDC, will this year take place between the days of June 2nd and June 6th. While the company has previously put tickets on sale immediately and let the chips fall where they may, with the event selling out of thousands of tickets within just minutes, Apple has this year decided to even the playing field. Instead of continuing the first come, first serve model of the past, the company has instead adopted a “lottery system” that gives every potential attendee an equal opportunity to purchase tickets. To become eligible, you must register your interest – Apple will let you know if you got lucky enough to buy a ticket by next Monday, April 7th.

Apple typically uses WWDC as a platform to make announcements regarding both new software and new hardware, with WWDC being home to the announcement of various models of Mac computers, the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4, numerous versions of Mac OS X, and more recent versions of iOS. This year Apple is expected to announce a new version of their Retina MacBook lineup, Mac OS X 10.10, and iOS 8.

Apple sends out invites to iPad mini event on October 23rd

Confirming literally months of rumors and speculation, Apple has today sent out invites for the recently rumored (and essentially confirmed) October 23rd special event, writing on the invites that they have a “little more to show you”. I don’t know about you, but the first thing that instantly jumped to my mind when I saw the invite was how “little” parallels perfectly with what we’re all expecting – a little iPad.

Apple is rumored to be announcing both the iPad mini and the 13″ Retina MacBook Pro at the event. Recent rumors have also suspected that Apple might be using the keynote to announce updates to their Mac mini and iMac line, though we can’t yet confirm the accuracy of those statements.

We’ll be sure to cover all of Apple’s announcements as they come in – stay tuned!
