The hype has begun

Apple transforms Moscone West for WWDC14

applelogoDon’t look now, but Apple has begun transforming the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco into the showcase for their latest and greatest products and developers alike. WWDC 2014, or WWDC14 as Apple has taken to calling it this year, doesn’t begin until this upcoming Monday, but let’s take a look at some of Apple’s decorations, some of which hint to some pretty big changes. Photos sourced from numerous sources.

First, MacStories editor Federico Viticci has grabbed some photos of the outside of the center, including work being done on the giant Apple logo that will cover glass panels on the outside of the building. The Metreon building across the street is also home to some WWDC14 branded promotional images, as you can after the beak below.

Apple’s WWDC 2014 lottery winners have been notified

Good news, Apple developers! Apple has just notified their WWDC 2014 lottery winners if they have been selected to have the opportunity to purchase a ticket to WWDC 2014, Apple’s upcoming developer conference which is to be held of June 4th. The bad news? It appears as though all of the tickets have been sent out, so if you haven’t already received your ticket, you might well be pretty, well, out of luck.BkqIqWrIEAA1jzB.png-large

Apple decided to adopt a lottery system to give more developers a fairer chance to have the opportunity to attend WWDC – in previous years, Apple sold out of WWDC tickets ridiculously fast, with Apple selling out in just about 90 seconds last year. To compare, Microsoft sold out of tickets to their Build developer conference in the span of days, not seconds, last year.

Apple is widely expected to reveal their next generation mobile operating system, iOS 8, and their next generation desktop operating system, OS X 10.10, at WWDC this year. Apple may also be planning on updating their lineup of Retina MacBooks at the conference, however hardware is rarely the focus of WWDC.

Apple has today announced that their annual developers conference, WWDC, will this year take place between the days of June 2nd and June 6th. While the company has previously put tickets on sale immediately and let the chips fall where they may, with the event selling out of thousands of tickets within just minutes, Apple has this year decided to even the playing field. Instead of continuing the first come, first serve model of the past, the company has instead adopted a “lottery system” that gives every potential attendee an equal opportunity to purchase tickets. To become eligible, you must register your interest – Apple will let you know if you got lucky enough to buy a ticket by next Monday, April 7th.

Apple typically uses WWDC as a platform to make announcements regarding both new software and new hardware, with WWDC being home to the announcement of various models of Mac computers, the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4, numerous versions of Mac OS X, and more recent versions of iOS. This year Apple is expected to announce a new version of their Retina MacBook lineup, Mac OS X 10.10, and iOS 8.
