Times Square NYC literally overrun with excited Microsoft Surface launch
Last night was Microsoft’s Surface launch in their flagship store in Times Square, New York, and judging by photographs taken and shared by users on Twitter the event was an absolute madhouse, with a crowd large enough to make anybody feel like a sardine tightly packed in a can. (I know, that was a weird metaphor.)
The Microsoft Surface went on sale at 12:01 EST today for $499 for 32GB, or $599 for 32GB with a Touch Cover (an optional touch keyboard accessory). The device is one of the first to run Microsoft’s new Windows RT platform, which is essentially Windows 8 built specifically for ARM devices (of the same sort as the Amazon Kindle Fire, or Google’s Nexus 7).
Reviews for the Surface and Windows RT have ranged from acceptable to disappointing, however that apparently didn’t deter the thousands of people excited for Microsoft to launch their eagerly awaited contendor in the tablet market.
