Uhhoh: iMessage is down
First iCloud Mail, now iMessage – looks like Apple’s having another major outage, as the internet is currently a flutter complaining that Apple’s SMS replacement protocol, iMessage, which allows iOS and OS X users to smartly IM each other, is indeed currently down as of 3:45 PM EST.
What this means for those who don’t know – you won’t be able to send or receive messages to or from those who have an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or Mac computer until the outage is restored.
There is hope though – in order to get around this, simply go into Settings on your iOS device, click Messages, and turn off iMessage. Remember, though, to turn iMessage back on in a couple of hours when things are (hopefully) fully restored, or else you’ll be seeing a longer “outage” then most.
