While Apple’s Maps service suffers, Google Maps gets even better

Perhaps taking advantage of all the negative press Apple has been enduring over their new iOS 6 Maps update, Google has today taken the opportunity to update and vastly improve certain parts of their mapping service with a new 45-degree angle mode and high definition satellite imagery.

The new 45-degree angle mode launches with support for 51 cities, while 112 countries and 17 cities get to take advantage of the higher definition imagery.

Despite the coolness of these announcements, this is actually Google playing catchup with Microsoft’s Bing in a way, which has offered something close to a 45 degree mode with their “Birds Eye View” mode for years now.
